Another wonderful morning, sunny and temps in the upper 60’s. We got an early start today because it would be a long day in the car. It would seem even longer because we would lose an hour when we crossed into Michigan.
It was a good drive thru the U.P. of Michigan. Mostly 2 lane roads, but the traffic was light all the way. The only real traffic was in Munising MI and at the Toll Booths for the Mackinaw Bridge. Munising traffic thinned right after we left town and the Toll traffic was gone by 6 or 7 miles from the bridge. It was interesting the in the U.P. the last section of roadway was next to Lake Michigan and cars were parked on the shoulder so the people climbed over the sand dune to take advantage of the beach. In a 5 or 6 mile stretch there must have been 200 cars parked and traffic is passing by on the 2 lane road at 65 mph.
In the lower peninsula, the speed limit on I-75 is 75 from the bridge to Bay City, and for the most part we were able to maintain that. The sun stayed out all afternoon. We only made 3 stops, 1 for gas and 2 rest areas. Kelso was a good guy and for the most part he had his head over the center console getting scritches. I think he was glad to see the condo in St Clair.
Looking back the trip was great. Good to see the Grand Canyon again after 60 years. The California Coast and Oregon Coast was a a great drive and the Canadian Rockies were better than I remembered. It was a good trip to take with lots of scenery that was worth seeing.
