Great Morning, upper 60’s and the sun is shining. We had time today because our visit with Curt was not till 1:00 in Bemidji MN, about1 1/2 or so hours southwest of International Falls, MN.
We arrived in Bemidji with plenty of time to spare. They are famous for their statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox. The sign said they were from 1937. We went to the park in Downtown Bemidji and took some pictures, The Park Sign, The Famous Duo, The Lake next to the park and a Wood Indian Sculpture. The park was busy with lots of young kids, but they were in the playground area. Several people there taking pictures of the Famous Duo. They had a souvenir store with all kinds of Bemidji treasures.
Kelso had a good walk at the park and we went and got lunch to try and kill the rest of the extra time. I was pretty near finished when Curt called and said he was home. We arrive at Curt’s house and we found out that Ozzie, Curt’s little black dog was no longer with them and had gone to Dog Heaven. Ozzie started experiencing some seizures and there was nothing beneficial they could do, so he was put down. Ozzie was quite old. At Burnt Store Marina, on the morning walks, when you gave Ozzie a treat, he would gum it because he did not have teeth anymore.
Kelso & I had a good visit with Curt and I would say we went from casual friends to friends. I had never been to Curt’s House at BSM or seen him other than the Dog Walks in the morning at BSM. During one of those walks I casually mentioned I might take a road trip this summer and I could be near Bemidji. Curt said that I could stop by for a visit if I did the trip. It was a good visit and we swapped a lot of stories and personal information.
Kelso & I got back on the road and set the GPS for our motel in Duluth. It was about 2 1/2 hours East of Bemidji but the sun was out and the traffic was good.
