Nice sunny morning. I spent time this morning finishing the posting of the pictures to the Blog. There are quite a few on several days. If you have the opportunity, you may want to go back and look at them.
The road this morning was empty after I got outside Medicine Hat. I had reviewed the itinerary and it looks like we will make up an extra day of driving today and that will give us an extra day for a no travel day, that should help Kelso and his nerves.
The land in Eastern Alberta and Western Saskatchewan is basically flat with a few rolling hills thrown in. One thing I noticed today that I had never seen on an Interstate is that in 2 areas, they separated the East Bound and West Bound Lanes by at least 1/2 mile and the length of the separation was 4 to 5 miles. There were 3 cross roads (north-South) between the Hwy lanes. The Hwy 1 expressway is a little different than the US Interstates I am used to. It is 2 lane and the speed limit is 110 KPH (approx. 70 mph). But the side roads they cross open onto the Hwy. I do not believe this present much of a problem because I think I only saw maybe 6 cars pull out from a side road today and that was in more than 350 miles of road. When it passes thru some small towns, the speed is reduced and there are some traffic signals. Canada has a lot fewer people that the US and the traffic never even reached what I would call medium today. It is only in the larger towns that they put in more controlled access and exits. probably saved a lot of money doing this way. This big medium they created is farmland with houses, barns, silos, etc., even saw some cows grazing in one area
Pretty uneventful day, everything went well and we made good time. Kelso had a good day in the car and I was smoothing him about 80% of the time, no panting, no apparent nervousness. We will see how good he is tomorrow.
Saskatchewan is on Central Time but the Province goes by standard time and not Daylight Savings time, so I did not loose and time today.
The below pictures are from East of Medicine Hat and were taken around 10:00 am and 10:30 am. Notice the traffic, or lack there of.
