Cool morning with the temps in the mid 50’s. Along the road the temps got to 45 F before it started to rise. It was in the low 70’s in Calgary.
Last night after I finished the Post we lost power at the motel, at least that is what I thought. We did our walk this morning and we find out that the Town of Golden lost power last night and it was still out today. We left early and I cruised by the laundromat and it was dark as was the gas station next door.
Fortunately I had about 140 miles left in the tank, which was more than enough to get to Lake Louise, But not a lot more. It was kind of gray this morning, we had thunderstorms after Kelso & I went to bed. It was just damp outside this morning, not wet. Traffic was light and that was great. It was light in both direction. The mountain views were very good this morning, but they are better when the sun shine on them. As we arrived at Lake Louise, the traffic got heavier when we exited Hwy 1. The gas station was full and I had to wait for a pump. No coffee in the gas station, but the Cafe next door had coffee, the 1st of the morning for me because without power it is difficult to heat water.
We moved east and the westbound traffic was heavier than before. We stopped in Banff and the Town was busy with lots of pedestrians walking the downtown area. A nice town done in the Bavarian theme, but I think Leavenworth, Washington was done a little better.
We moved on toward Calgary,. Still some wonderful views of the mountains. A lot of smoke from the wildfires so the views are not crystal clear. As we moved east from Banff, we made our exit from the Canadian Rockies to flat farm land. The west bound traffic on Hwy 1 was very heavy, I am not sure why for a Sunday late morning.
We arrived in Calgary and I needed a few things. Fortunately we found a Pet Store and I was able to get some soft treats for Kelso and a can of his soft dog food. Kelso was a big hit in the Pet Store and the Ladies gave him treats, scritches and tummy rubs. I was also able to get a recommendation on a laundromat.
We went to the laundromat and there were a few men in their doing laundry Kelso came in with me and laid down on the floor and dozed on and off for the roughly 2 hours we were there. It was interesting to note that when I went in, there were only men and when I left I was the last man and there were 6 women doing their laundry. Just an interesting observation.
We arrived at the motel in Okotoks, AB. It is about 20 miles south of Calgary and about $100 per night cheaper than the Calgary motels. I have been in so many different motels, that I do not remember much about most of them. Some stand out, like last nights with no power.
