Threat of rain this morning. In fact it sprinkled while Kelso had breakfast and I was packing. We did not see anymore rain for the day and probably about 150 miles East we ran into sunshine.
The plan was to take Hwy 5 to avoid 2 wildfires on Hwy 1 North of Hope. Hwy 1 goes around the west side of the mountains and Hwy 5 goes around the east side. They meet on the other side of the mountain , about 120 miles away from Hope. The views were great even thou there was a lot of smoke on the ground. As you went higher the smoke thinned some, but was still present. The smoke was from the wildfires. Some of the mountains in the distance we almost hidden by the smoke. I did not smell anything, but I had the A/C on and the windows closed.
We arrived in Revelstoke, British Columbia and I stopped at the motel I had seen online and they were full. I checked 6 other motels and they were all booked up with no rooms available. I am not sure what was going on, because there was not a lot of traffic in town. I finally decided that we would drive to Golden, BC. It is about 110 miles from Revelstoke.
The scenery was great, very much like the 1st part of todays trip. The smoke was just like I described earlier, no change, but the further east we traveled, the more sun we had. I stopped at the first motel we saw as entering the business area of Golden and they had a room so all is well, we do not have to sleep in the car tonight.
My friend in Montana is not going to be available for a visit, so I have rerouted the trip thru Canada to International Falls, MN. so we can Curt & Ozzie (friends from Burnt Store) in Bemidji, MN, about a week away. Still many miles to travel and many things to see.
