We drove up to the Grand Canyon, South Rim, And spent some time walking the visitor walk right on the South Rim. There is no good way to describe it except spectacular. The view kind of take your breath away because you just do not see this type of landscape anywhere else. Some of the facts about the Grand Canyon is that the South Rim is at elevation 7129′ and the North Rim is about 8145′ above sea level. The Average width, from South to North Rim is 10 miles. The Colorado River, at the bottom of the Canyon is almost 1 mile below the South Rim. It is difficult to see to the bottom of the Grand Canyon because of all the various rock formations.
We walked the South Rim From just East of the Visitor Center for about 1/2 mile West. Needless to say, all the views are great and changing all along the way. We spent time at the Visitor Center reading all the Informational Display Boards which go along way in informing you about everything there is about the Grand Canyon. The stop was well worth it, from my perspective, and if you ever have the chance to stop here, do not pass it up.
There were quite a few people here and they all seemed to be respectful of each other and waited if necessary to get in a position they wanted to take some pictures. While it looked like there were a lot of visitors, the parking lots were not full, but maybe 60% full. Seemed to be a lot of people specking languages I do not understand so I assume they are foreigners.
We made reservations for 2 nights at the Yavapai Lodge. This lodge has a registration Building and like 3 separate clusters of buildings with the rooms. It is stretched out along about 1/2 mile along a park road. We were given a room in the last section and when I tried to connect to the WIFI it was not present on the screen of my laptop. I tried to call the Front Desk but the phone did not work. I drove back to the registration Bldg. and told them about the WIFI and phone. The said the WIFI, as it got busier, did not reach all the Rooms. They said I could come over to the Registration Bldg and use it. I told them that was unacceptable. They offered to refund the 2nd day but not the first. I told them that I was leaving because the rooms did not have what they were advertised to have. I told them I would challenge the charge with my credit card company. We ended up back in Flagstaff and will be here for 2 nights. Oh Well.
