The Posts were delayed because the 1st night I could not get onto the internet and I was hoping it was the motel’s wifi. The 2nd night Kelso & I went to dinner with Steve and Susan Koontz (my Florida neighbors) and by the time we got back I was bushed, so I put it off. The 3rd night is the charm, until it was not. I wrote the first day description but could not add the photos. My IT Dept took on the task of getting it fixed.
Great day once the fog burned off. The fog finally lifted about an hour west of Port Huron on I-69. I took I-69 to try and avoid the construction and traffic in the Detroit Metro Area. Traffic was reasonably good, It did get a little heavy once I was on I-94 near Battle Creek but general thinned out when outside the construction zones. It was a good ride into Chicago and interesting to find out that the toll roads in Illinois accept Florida’s Easy Pass so I only needed to slow and not stop.
It was nice and sunny when I was coming into Chicago and I have a couple of skyline pictures that I think are nice. The 1st one was an early view of the skyline in the distance and the 2nd is much closer. We parked in a garage right on Adams Street and walked down to where the sign is that marks the start of Route 66 in Chicago at Michigan and Adams Streets. Lots of pedestrian foot traffic in the area.
We left the parking garage and followed the actual marked Historic Route 66 down Adams to Ogden Avenue, to Harlem Street, to Joliet Street, etc. The only time we were not on the marked route was when we went to the motel for the night. The route did not have much in the way of Route 66 relics as most of it was in urban Chicago. I am sure they posted the Historic Route Signs when it became apparent that there was a lot of interest in preserving the past and other States were doing it, and it probably would draw people.
It was a very good day and Kelso did reasonably well in the car, but not quite as well as when we travel to and from Florida. I have no idea why.
