Overcast morning and we got started a little after 8 this morning. The traffic was light as it was a Sunday morning. After a few miles we had some very light rain that varied from light to medium and then back to light. The rain stopped for a few miles and then started again. The rain finally quit after about 40 miles. The outside temp was in the low 60’s and held pretty steady.
We did not have far to go because we were stopping in Lincoln City. Lenore’s parents lived in a development called Salishan (after they retired) which is a couple of miles south of Lincoln City. Lincoln City is also a reasonably large town compared to a lot of the other towns we have been thru. The Census Bureau estimates it has about 10,000 people.
The ride after the rain was interesting from the fact it had the most traffic we have seen on the Coast Hwy since we got on in Marin County, just north of San Francisco. There were some good views of the Pacific and some nice forested land that we drove thru. We did stop at one of the roadside turnouts. It turned out to be a picnic area at the road level. Kelso and I set out to the beach below. The ground sloped down and then there were some old concrete stairs. I all I estimate that the beach was 40′ to 50′ below the parking area. I am not sure where the tide was in its cycle but there was at least a couple of hundred feet of beach to the water. About 3/4 of the sand was soft under the feet before you got to the hard packed wet sand where the water was. There was quite a distance from where we came down to the north and south. maybe a mile in each direction. I think Kelso enjoyed the walk as much as I did.
We moved further north along the Hwy and we got a few brief sunshine breaks along the way. As we approached Lincoln City, the traffic got heavier and in Lincoln City where there were 2 lanes in each direction, they were filled with vehicles. We had chores to do so I found a laundromat so I could do some laundry. The suitcase is only so big and I use the last shirt and socks in it this morning. We did get some consistent sun later in the afternoon.
