Had a great Blueberry Pancake breakfast with Pete & Carolyn before Kelso & I departed. The weather was a little cool to start but the sun was out and there was going to be another great day on Dogfish Head Road. Pete & Carolyn were fabulous hosts but it was time to move on.
I had a chance to see the Bath Boat Works Plant again when Kelso & I crossed the river on the bridge that took Hwy 1 into Bath, Nice small town and it even has a few traffic signals. The first part of the trip thru the countryside was a lot more interesting then I-95 on a Saturday afternoon. Lots of traffic on the Southbound side and even more on the Northbound. While the traffic was heavy for us it moved well and I was in the right lane a couple of mph under the speed limit. We did have 1 stop and go but once we cleared the toll booths the traffic seemed to be a little lighter.
Got a good chance to see the countryside for the last 15 or 20 miles into North Reading. Google has Us exit I-95 near Hathorne MA and we headed East on some pretty narrow, winding roads with speed limits from 25 mph to 35 mph. It was nice county side but the roads had me paying a lot of attention to the steering wheel.
My visit was to see Pat Buckley. I met her and her husband about 10 years ago at Burnt Store Marina. They were a delightful couple. John had been having health issues for several years, such that they sold their place in Burnt Store. I was waiting to call them to see if we could meet and with John’s health condition up and down, I thought I would wait till I started the trip. Unfortunately, John passed near the end of June and I found out about it just before I started the trip. I called Pat about a week and a half before I thought we could meet. She was happy to hear from me and thought it would be good for me to stop, but the complex she lives in cannot handle RVs. I ended up in a Walmart Parking lot, in North Reading, about a mile from her condo. She came down picked up Kelso & I and we went back to her place and chatted for the afternoon. It was a very good conversation. Later, we took Kelso back to the RV and went to an Italian Restaurant just down the road from the RV. Had a great meal and then she took me back to the RV.
I am glad that I had the opportunity to visit with Pat. She was John’s caretaker for several years. He is at peace now and she seemed to be doing surprisingly well considering it was only about 5 weeks ago that John passed. I hope she continues to do well.
Sorry, no pictures today. I had thought about taking some in the Walmart parking lot. We had semis all around us a a few left their engines running continuously. I slept pretty well.
