Champ III: Going Places

The adventure starts here.

Day 2, July 8 – Ottawa, Ontario Area

Left Peter and Sharron’s after a very good breakfast. Kelso enjoyed the walk but was nervous in the RV. We took Peter’s suggestion and headed East on Hwy 9 until we got into the town of Newmarket which is a reasonably good size town in spite of the fact that you may not have heard of it.

I was just coming into town at about 45 mph when all of a sudden there was a loud flapping sound from the right rear of the RV. I pulled over with my flashers on to look at the proble. The RV is a Chevy 3500 truck chassis with dual rear wheels. I had a hard time seeing what the problem was but it sounded like something had come loose and was hitting the wheel well housing everytime it rotated. If I drove less than 20 mph there was little if any noise. I checcked my Google Maps and found a Costco so I headed there. They could not handle it because of the weight of the vehicle, so the sent me to a Chevy dealer about 2 blocks away. Same issue there, they could not lift a vehicle that weight. They sent me to another automotive company abaout 5 miles away. I traveled about 15 mph with the emergency flashers on. They couldn’t do anything because of the weight but sent me to a tire store across the street. Finally I found someone that could look at the isse. Just a few minutes and they determined that the steel belts in side the tire were nolonger inside , they had broken and were flapping. Also there was on tire that was essentially bald on the divers side. I called Saint Clair RV where I rented the RV and talked to Andy the Owner. He said to go ahead and replace thos 2 and have them look at the other two in the back and replace them if necessary. I finally left Newmarket about 3:30 and arrived at Art & Donnas in Carleton Place Ontario, about 30 miles from Ottawa. There were no further problems.

Art and I had a nice conversation that evening and Kelso & I finally got to bed about an 1 1/2 hours later than normal. With the delau I decided to spend the next day at Art & Donna’s and rework my itinerary to make up for it. Donna was busy during the day with he lady friends that she has known a long, long time. Art took Kelso and I for a tour of the City of Ottawa. It does help to have someone who knows the background, and has lived there all his life. I know Art & Donna from Burnt Store Marina where they are winter Snowbirds. We saw all the government Buildings in all their wonderful architecture. Also saw where they were setting up for a Music Festival that is held yearly. I even had a chance to stop at Costco to get a few quick items that I needed. Art and I went out for dinner to one of the local reastuarants that was very good. Kelso and I got to bed at our regular time, about 9:30.

We spent the next morning talking with Art & Donna around their dining table have coffee and a light breakfast. Kelso and I left for Quebec City about 8:30. All in all it was a great visit and Art is a wonderful host.

Kelso wants to know why I called him back. He was headed for Art & Donna’s house on the other side of the trees.

Parked next to Art’s Barn so I could plug in the RV.

  1. Another adventure. With any luck the tire issue will mark the end of the problems with the RV.

  2. Glad you are updating! I’ve been checking! Also glad the issue in the RV was minor! Hope you continue to have a good trip! Sunna misses Kelso but is enjoying all the treats!!
