It was a good day to cruise. The temps were down a little and the sky was mostly sunny. Not much traffic on the river and we wanted to move a little more west on the canal.
We spent some time talking with Jeff and Sandy who are from Huron Ohio and are on their sailboat Manatee. They have a dog, Hatch, that is a mixture of Golden, Lab and probably a couple others and he is a great boat dog. Candy and Hatch got along very well. They are just cruising the Erie Canal and taking their time.
We went thru 2 locks today and their is not much traffic on the canal. We did not have any boats with us. I was concerned that once we got to Fairport that there might not be any wall space because Fairport is a popular spot. Well wall space was not a problem. There were a few spots available and we took one on the north wall because that was more convenient to the restaurants.
The north wall also has an ice cream store and the families come down late afternoon and evening to have ice cream and sit by the canal. They feed the ducks so there are plenty of ducks around and we had them trying to spend time on our swim platform. I think I was able to discourage them.
We went for dinner at an Irish Pub and the food was good. It was pretty much all Irish type food and not a lot of American dished available on the menu.
Originally we were only going to stay 1 night but we decided to stay 2 so we could rest up from the locks.
The second day we had a vocalist guitar player on the patio at the restaurant right next to the boat. He played from late afternoon to about 9:00, so we had a good entertainment.
There are some nice walking paths along the canal banks that are call the canaltrail. Candy and I walked both ways from the docks. To the west was a park about a mile away that was pretty nice and Candy had a chance to meet a lot of nice people.
