The day was kind of misty with cool temps in the mid 60’s but the winds were light. We had planned on going to Golden Isle Marina with Deni and John (Blarney Castle). Well we ended up with 4 boats as we were joined by Doug & Judy (Moonstruck2) and Ray & Patty (Oh… Kay). They were going to be traveling north and at about our speed so we had a larger flotilla.
The skies did mostly clear as we got underway. The water was not to choppy but the wind was out of the east and coming off the ocean so we felt it a little more at the inlets. After we passed the St Mary’s River inlet there is a naval base up the river a couple of miles along the ICW and it is home to some submarines. We did get a few photos of the submarine pen with a sub in it. It is not easy to identify but it is there. The ever present Homeland Security boat was out in front of the base.
This was not a real long day but we started at the wrong time. We arrived at the Jekyll Island River and the tide was low tide. Water was pretty shallow and some of the channel markers were out of the water in the mud that is covered during high tide. This section was probably 2 miles long. Everybody made it thru but several boats touched bottom.
The Golden Isle Marina is located in the Brunswick Georgia area and is a pretty nice marina. We had a good cocktail hour with everybody from the 4 boats and then we went to dinner at the Coastal Kitchen restaurant at the marina and had great food and a lot of laughs. I think a good time was had by all.
We are only staying hear one night as John & Deni are trying to get to Beaufort SC to head home and Ray and Patty are headed to Savannah and from there they will head home for a month to Colorado.
